Step Into Wellness: National Walk for Mothers’ Mental Health Comes to Stuart, FL

Motherhood is often described as “the most rewarding job in the world.” What they forget to mention is that it’s also the most exhausting, underpaid, and definitely the one with the worst PTO policy. Between diaper duty, endless snack requests, and the emotional weight of caring for everyone else, moms rarely get the chance to slow down, let alone take a walk just for themselves. At Whole Counseling & Wellness, we believe maternal mental health should be a priority, for mothers and for the families who depend on them.

That’s why I’m so excited to share that Whole Counseling & Wellness is partnering with FIT4MOM® Jensen Beach/Palm City/Stuart and Gilbert's Coffee Bar to join the National Walk for Mothers and Mental Health this year with a community event right here in Stuart, FL. It’s about movement, mental health, and moms getting the support they deserve—oh, and yes, coffee is involved.

Why the Walk for Mothers’ Mental Health Matters

The National Walk for Mothers and Mental Health highlights the demands placed on mothers and stresses the importance of accessible mental health care. Studies show that nearly 1 in 5 mothers experience postpartum depression. These statistics emphasize the urgency of creating spaces where moms can prioritize their mental health.

When mothers thrive, families thrive. Research consistently shows that maternal mental health impacts not just moms, but children, relationships, and communities. Yet, many women suffer silently with postpartum anxiety, depression, and burnout.

At Whole Counseling & Wellness, our mission is to provide compassionate, specialized care for women and mothers across all stages of motherhood, from fertility to postpartum to empty nest. Events like this walk help us highlight the importance of access to mental health support while creating meaningful community connections.

By participating in this community event, you contribute to changing perceptions around maternal mental health. Each step taken during this walk is a powerful reminder that the mental health of mothers is critical and that they should not navigate this path alone.

Why Whole Counseling & Wellness Is Involved

At Whole Counseling & Wellness in Stuart, FL, women’s mental health is at the heart of everything we do. We know that a woman’s emotional well-being is shaped by many factors: identity, relationships, career, family, and life transitions. That’s why our practice is dedicated to supporting women across the lifespan.

Within this broad focus, Dr. Ellen Chance brings specialized expertise in perinatal and reproductive mental health. These are the times in a woman’s life when shifts in hormones and identity collide: fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause. These transitions can spark challenges like mood changes, anxiety, depression, or feelings of burnout that deserve care and understanding.

Our services include:

  • Perinatal counseling for pregnancy, postpartum, and early motherhood—helping mothers navigate postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, and the identity changes that often surface.

  • Maternal mental health support for the ongoing challenges of motherhood, from overwhelm and burnout to the pressure of balancing multiple roles.

  • Reproductive mental health counseling for women facing infertility, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, or the challenges of parenting a child with significant health needs.

  • Perimenopause and midlife support, addressing mood changes, anxiety, and identity shifts during this often overlooked stage of a woman’s life.

At Whole Counseling & Wellness, we believe women’s mental health deserves its own spotlight, and reproductive transitions deserve care that is both compassionate and evidence-based. Dr. Chance’s advanced training ensures that women receive support tailored to the unique challenges of these stages, because when women feel whole, they can thrive in every area of life.

At Whole Counseling & Wellness, we’re committed to walking alongside women through every stage of motherhood—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We believe mental wellness is just as essential as physical health, and the truth is, the two are inseparable. Caring for your mind is caring for your body, and both are vital to feeling whole.

How to Prepare: Tips for a Meaningful Walk Experience

Research indicates that community support can reduce feelings of isolation by 25%, reinforcing the idea that no mother should navigate her challenges alone. By participating in this walk, we aim to cultivate a sense of community and support among mothers. To have the best experience, consider these suggestions:

  1. Dress Comfortably: Opt for walking shoes and clothes that allow for movement. Remember to wear green as a sign of support!

  2. Stay Hydrated: Bring a water bottle to keep refreshed during the event.

  3. Bring the Family: This is a stroller-friendly event. Kids and babies in strollers are welcome, making it a great way to teach young ones about the importance of mental health.

  4. Build Connections: Use this opportunity to meet other mothers and share your personal stories. Creating connections can have a positive effect on your mental well-being.
